How does a REALTOR work for you in North Carolina

There are different ways a real estate agent can work for you in North Carolina. As a buyer’s agent, seller’s agent, dual agent or designated dual agent.  A buyer’s agent is able to fully represent you during the process of buying a home. A seller’s agent is able to fully represent you during the process of selling a home. As a dual agent, it is more like being a referee to each side of the transaction, both the buyer and seller. We have to have dual agency in order to have designated dual agency, which means if you were interested in seeing a home listed by an agent that works at the same firm as your buyer’s agent, we would need to have designated dual agency in order to show you that home.

Until an agent is working for you, it’s important for you to know to keep any information confidential that can hurt your purchasing power in the process of buying or selling a home. I remember it with the acronym of MAP. M-motivation to buy, A-ability to pay, and P-purchase price. If you go to look at a home and you do not have an agent representing you, it’s best to stick to the features of the home when you are talking with them.
